Everyone wants a great T Shirt design. I know I do. That’s why I’ve been in this business for 15 years (but who cares). What contributes to better design? Which T Shirt do people like to wear again and again?

Some of the best designs are simple. But even simple designs need to do certain things right – to avoid common mistakes – to achieve that greatness.

In this post, I’m going to outline the first ten things you need to think about when designing your printed masterpiece. Some of these may seem obvious, while others may be news to you. Read on to find out.

Scaling

There may be things in life that are not measurable. In T Shirt design, this is very important. However, most people tend to go with a fixed amount of time more.

Here’s the thing: Size should be determined based on the nature of the design and the characteristics of the garment to be printed. You have to think a little bit about that.

Depending on the shape of your design, it may be much larger than it should be. For example, square or circular shapes are beautiful when they are smaller than the standard, as in the picture with the two jutins above.

Some people will print their design on plain paper and hold it up to the T Shirt to get an idea of what it will look like and I fully support doing this. I also support creating a superhero outfit from household items while you are there.

Another thing to consider: Does one size fit all? Depending on the size range of your clothing and the size of your order, you may want to consider using reduced size printing for smaller items such as ladies and young.

Another thing to consider is the style of clothing or materials to be printed, which may have a limited print area. For example, the maximum height of a hoodie with front pockets is 10, and the maximum width of some toddler tees is 6.

Bottom line, size matters. It can create or break a design. Do you want a T Shirt that was first selected from the new load of laundry, or left last in the drawer when the barrier was filled?

If in doubt, ask your print representative or art department what the best size of your print should be. We are always happy to help you determine.

Placement

Print placement is sometimes linked to location, but in reality it is a specific measure of where to print the design within the location.

Your design will be so amazing, it will turn upside down- but get the job wrong, heads will change for the wrong reasons. A common mistake is belly print, which never flatters. In an upcoming post, I will discuss this unfortunate place in detail.

If your design has a fixed print location like full front or full back, our product team will work on your different clothing types and sizes.

If you are requesting alternative employment, let us know the specifics, our art team will confirm that your request is within range, show proof of how it is, and send those instructions to our production department.

In the next two blog posts, I will go over the high quality print locations and suggest alternative print locations besides your design.

Typography & Fonts

Typography, in its most basic form, is the visual component of the written word. This is not text – but any time the text is printed or displayed, there will be some typography in it.

In terms of design, typography is the process of selecting typewriters (fonts), typing or rendering meaningfully, ensuring that spacing and line spacing are correct, as well as the way they interact with graphic elements. very happy.

The design on the left is all-caps in the same font, it should never be all-cap. The other design uses three different fonts, which add variety and visual appeal.

Your font selection can tell a lot about how your design was derived, and can express some ideas or provoke feelings that are not intentional. From a lifetime of looking at logos, graphics and advertisements, we have all been conditioned to say certain characters for certain fonts.

For example, if your T Shirt design is for family remodeling, the font “Family Forever” might not be the best way to express it. Or if you are going for a more corporate or professional look, you should avoid the “comic opportunity”.

True talk, you should always avoid Comic Sans.

Some standard fonts will work well for anything. Applications specific to other fonts exist only in certain contexts. We get a lot of designs where the font name starts with “A” or “B”, which means you don’t have to spend a lot of time choosing your font. Explore your options!

Colors

Color choices are the most important decisions; Not only for design reasons, but if you want to print the screen, make sure the work fits your budget. More colors = more cost per item. Of course, you can always buy more T Shirts to reduce your cost for one item. Spend more to save more. Sales logic.

With screen printing, in some cases, you can use a technique called halftones, which basically make small dots look like three or four colors and more. It’s like magic. There is a lot more to this and I will get to that in a future post. For now, ask your sales representative if your design is compatible with cell phones.

You need to think about colors from the moment you start designing. Colors can actually have specific effects on people, read about the science! Advertisers are well aware of this fact and you should be too.

You can choose from our color ink colors available at Design Studio, or if your brand requires specific colors, we provide the precise pontoon color matching. Check out some examples on RushOrderTees Ink Labs Instagram.

You may want to use the official color of the pontoon for 2019, “We live mixed coral here. You may want to avoid using the world’s ugly color “opaque trainer” (although this is determined by a marketing company in Australia, do not think too badly if it is your favorite color).

If your printing method is DDG (live style) rather than screen printing, we print “in full color”, so the number of colors associated with the budget is no longer considered. This makes it a great choice for full color photos. But the way the design looks due to the color choices is always an idea and speaks beautifully.

It may be tempting to add a lot of color as a way to make the design more vivid, but it may backfire. Use multiple colors, your design will be ugly because there is a high chance of conflict.

Variation

Variation is a part of color selection, but it is also a very specific and important part. Rather what exactly? This is the magnitude of the visual difference between them

Darker and lighter parts of an image or shades of colors similar to each other.

The strongest difference is always black and white or vice versa. Of course, bright colors on a dark background can be very contrasting.

Depending on the content, which colors have more space or dominate, the design can do a lot with overall variation. A crazy, eye-catching image with saturated colors enhances contrast against a neutral background.

Achieving the highest variability is not always the goal. Many prefer the subtle look of the low-contrast axis. I am a big fan. But this can be a great line between low variance and variance, so it is important to be careful. This example shows the design difference.

Reverse

The reverse is usually something to do, usually when printing white ink on black clothes. If you do not have Goth Art Band, you do not want your photo to look like an X – ray.

Sometimes it is not easy to tell whether something should be upside down or not. If a skull is black but the eyes are white, it should switch to a positive image of negativity, often with a white outline added.

Using our design studio, it can sometimes be tricky to decide which way to go. When in doubt, add a note describing what you are getting, or better yet, contact a project expert who can guide you toward a better outcome.

I will post a detailed article on the topic, so check it out.

Borders, masks and fringes

Many of the designs we print have one or more photos. The photo of him sitting in a T Shirt with bare edges is boring or cheap and professional. An easy solution to this is “setting a limit”!

There are a lot of options when it comes to borders and edges. Very simple is a thin white or black border, which will immediately enhance the look. But it does not have to be square – in that case you can use the “Mask” feature in our design studio, which allows you to choose different shapes.

Alternatively, you can still go with a frame, which has a dense border, sometimes with fancy details like beveled edges or the example below.

Take care of your thing. If it is a one-year design, you may want a fancy frame. If it is suitable for hard soils, you may prefer rough edges.
